Mineral Biography
Mineral was a prominent mid-90's indie band originally from Austin, Texas. Former members have since moved on to other musical projects including The Gloria Record, Pop Unknown, and Zookeeper.

Mineral's music is characterized by its iterated soft/loud structure, overlaid with melodic, off-key vocals and ethereal guitar-based instrumental bridges. Many of their songs adhere to the formulaic and now ubiquitous stylistic conventions often associated with de facto pioneers of the post-emo indie rock genre, Sunny Day Real Estate (SDRE). Despite their ostensive similarities to SDRE, it should be noted that Mineral emerged contemporaneously with the group and added their own less intense, more brooding flavor to the then-emerging "midwest emo" sound. Mineral's subtle balance between angst-ridden kinetics and wistful underpinnings, in conjunction with their intelligent lyrics, have heavily influenced indie-rock and emo bands of the late 1990s and 2000s.

The Austin four first got together in 1994 and soon after released a 7" on Audio Concept(label of Kerry McDonald from Christie Front Drive). This was re-printed by Caulfield Records. A copy of Mineral's work eventually made its way to a zine editor in Colorado who later forwarded a 7" to a Fred of Crank! Records. Crank! immediately made correspondence with the group and released their only two full length albums, The Power of Failing and End Serenading. Soon after the release of End Serenading, the group disbanded.
