Allstar Weekend Biography

Allstar Weekend is a American pop/rock band from Poway, California. The band gained its popularity from the Disney Channel television network. The band consists of lead singer Zach Porter, lead guitarist Nathan Darmody, bassist Cameron Quiseng, and drummer Michael Martinez. In June 2010, they began their first headlining tour, Suddenly Summer Tour, around the United States and Canada. In the fall of 2010 they will be on The Suddenly Yours Tour to promote their album "Suddenly Yours". Their debut extended play, Suddenly, was released on June 21, 2010 in the USA, and managed to peak at number 62 on the Billboard 200. Their debut full-length album Suddenly Yours was released on October 19, 2010. Many people compare Allstar Weekend to other Disney groups, such as the Jonas Brothers as well as Honor Society.

The lead singer, Zachary Porter, the lead guitarist, Nathan Darmody, and the bassist, Cameron Quiseng all went to high school together. The drummer, Michael Martinez, went to their rival high school but was still good friends with the other three members of the band. Allstar Weekend is not their original band name. Due to legal issues, the band's name was changed from Outerspace Politicians to ALLSTAR. When this name also became a problem, they changed their name to Allstar Weekend. According to various interviews, they chose the word "Weekend" to be added to the end because weekends are often relished by many people, and this idea helps to connect with the audience. (Although the similarity to the band Vampire Weekend has been speculated.)

The band first rose to fame when they were contestants on the Disney Channel special, Disney's N.B.T. (Next Big Thing), under their former name "ALLSTAR". Despite being a fan favorite, the band lost, coming second to Jonnie and Brookie. However, a few months later, the band signed a contract with Hollywood Records and immediately began work on their debut album.

Prior to becoming contestants on Disney's N.B.T., they contributed songs (one of which was an early, more synthesized version of "Dance Forever") as part of a digital split album titled Chicken Finger Fingers on Drive-Thru Records with Dino Club. Soon after signing with Hollywood Records and releasing their debut extended play, the EP was taken off of iTunes.

On March 2, 2010, the band released their debut single, "A Different Side of Me," for digital download and radio airplay. The music video contains the four members of the band discovering a castle and while exploring the corridors of the castle, each member explores their own destinies. They then go their separate ways, while they reveal everything from a princess, to a witch, to an epic sword battle. The song became a major Disney hit, peaking at the top of Radio Disney singles chart.

Allstar Weekend were one of many bands who recorded remakes of hit Disney songs on the compilation album, Disneymania 7, which was released on March 9, 2010. The band recorded their version of I Just Can't Wait to Be King, originally heard on The Lion King. Shortly after the release of their debut single, the band announced their debut EP, titled Suddenly would be released on June 22, 2010. They also announced plans to release a second single before the release of the album.

On June 7, 2010 the band released the second single from their upcoming EP, titled "Dance Forever". The music video was released June 4, 2010 and takes place in the backyard of a house where a pool party is being thrown and the band is performing. Both the lead vocalist Zachary Porter, and guitarist Nathan Darmody have said that the "Dance Forever" video represents not just one, but all the members of the band's personalities. The song has proven to be a breakout hit for the band, debuting on Billboard's Heatseekers Chart at number 16. It also peaked at number 45 on the Canadian Hot 100, making it their first song to chart on a major singles chart.

Their debut EP, Suddenly was released on June 22, 2010 to generally positive reviews from critics. The album was somewhat successful in its first week, debuting at number 62 on the Billboard 200 Album Chart. The band began a Summer tour titled "Suddenly Summer Tour" in order to promote the album. The tour featured several U.S. stops, as well as a few stops in Canada.

On August 30, 2010, Allstar Weekend performed "A Different Side of Me" and "The Weekend" live on Good Morning America. After the performance, they confirmed that their debut album, titled Suddenly Yours would be released on October 19, 2010. The album's lead single, titled "Come Down With Love", released on September 19, 2010.

On September 4, 2010, they confirmed via UStream that they would be guest-starring on the hit Disney Channel series Sonny With a Chance in order to promote the album. The episode aired on October 17, 2010, two days before the album's release date.

Allstar Weekend will be going on a Fall Tour called the "Suddenly Yours Tour" to promote their album (also by the same name). They'll be touring through out the US with Action Item (again), The Scene Aesthetic, and Stephen Jerzak. The tour starts November 4, 2010 in Las Vegas, NV and will go through the whole months of November and December.
