In late 2000 the band quietly ceased after supporting the "Astray' album. Despite what was initially to be a break up, they continued to tour abroad yearly (Europe three times, and South America) with occasional shows in San Francisco and Los Angeles. This led to the recording of the band's 7th album, "Whatever's Got You Down" in 2006. Samiam toured europe 3 more times in 2006 and 2007 and played various U.S. dates in 2008.
Summer 2009 west coast dates and Australian tour in September will be followed by short tours of South America and Europe in early 2010. Future plans to record are being discussed amongst band members. The band is not contractually obligated to any recording company.
Samiam is quoted in NYC-author Tao Lin's 2007 novel, Eeeee Eee Eeee. The main characters in the novel drive around Central Florida, lamenting their lives, and listening to Samiam and other bands of the era/style, including Jawbreaker and I Hate Myself.
