It's hard not to relate to Tori Blake. As a teenager in Southern California, she spent her days crushing on nerdy boys in school and her nights at home working those emotions into songs. She taught herself to play guitar at age 12 and has been practicing and perfecting her moves ever since. Determined to make it big, Tori sent her demo to the head of music marketing at a massively popular fashion brand. "Fashion and music have always been supertight," she explains. "While I'm writing a song, sometimes I'm already thinking about how I'll look performing it." The fashion world - particularly among brands favored by her friends in the O.C. - seemed like the perfect place to kickstart her career as a pop artist. Unfortunately, the music marketing guru in question didn't seem interested, at first.... But, rejection and Tori Blake don't fit in the same sentence. Tori went back to her guitar and wrote "Into U", a killer pop tune about her pursuit of a math geek that may just as easily be applied to her pursuit of superstardom. A mere year later, she sent the new track to the same guy, and this time, it was impossible to ignore.
"Third Eye Blind is one of my all-time favorite bands. I love the feelgood pop-rock vibe," Tori says. Taking that vibe of California sunshine and honest emotion, Tori then drew inspiration from another pop icon, Madonna. "I love the way she can write one song and create a whole world around it," she enthuses. The colors and excitement of Tori Blake's world have been translated into her debut video for "Into U". Shot on location at a high school and mall in SoCal, the video will premiere on Buzznet on October 11. Tori has also become the very first singer to be featured in Journeys' Artist Development Program, so keep an eye out for her video in all of their stores.
"Into U" is released on iTunes on October 5, 2010.
