Andra Day Biography
Andra Day attended the School of Creative and Performing Arts (SCPA) in San Diego, CA where she majored in singing.
Andra Day released several cover videos on YouTube that went viral in late 2012. A combination of these videos were featured on CBSnews.com, Vans.com, and GlobalGrind.com, among others. Day’s first post was Muse’s “Uprising” on October 1st , 2012. On October 5th, 2012, her second cover Jessie J’s “Mamma Knows Best” was released and by October 8th the video peaked at #2 on the YouTube Music Charts and #24 on the most popular videos across the web. Andra Day has released 4 more covers, including her cover of Eminem's “Lose Yourself” and Amy Winehouse's “He Can Only Hold Her", which both peaked at #2 on the YouTube Music Charts. The viral videos lead to Day being courted by numerous major record labels, as well as landing her a phone call with Ellen DeGeneres.Day has since signed to Warner Bros. Records.
Andra Day has completed her debut album, "Cheers To The Fall", which is scheduled for release August 28, 2015. The album was produced by Adrian Gurvitz and Raphael Saadiq, and features Questlove and James Poyser of The Roots, as well as DJ Jazzy Jeff and The Dap-Kings of Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings. The video for the first single from the album, "Forever Mine", is directed by Spike Lee. Andra Day performed her second single "Rise Up" at the 2015 BET Awards. Andra Day is featured on the soundtrack of the Netflix original documentary, What Happened, Miss Simone? Andra was featured in Rolling Stone's "10 New Artists You Need to Know" for July 2015. Andra Day performed at the LA2015 Special Olympics World Games Closing Ceremony on August 2, 2015 alongside Carly Rae Jepsen and O.A.R. NPR Music debuted the live acoustic video of Andra Day's song "Gold" on August 11, 2015. Andra Day will open for the American dates of Lenny Kravitz' tour in August and September 2015. Andra performed at the 2015 McDonald's 365Black Awards, which included B.O.B., Sevyn Streeter, and other R&B/Hip-Hop artists. Andra Day wrote or co-wrote all of the songs on her debut album "Cheers To The Fall". Andra Day performed her single "Rise Up" on ABC's Good Morning America on August 27th, 2015.
